Winifred Freeman was the sister in law of Charles Napier Hemy and studied art with Herkomer and Henry Scott Tuke, her art being associated with the Newlyn School.

She was a devout Roman Catholic and something of an eccentric being know to cycle in plus fours with her easel strapped to her back and smoking in public which was quite shocking in her day.  Her paintings rarely come to market and this is a good example from when she spent time in Lourdes.
