Elected a member of the RA in 1863 this is a typical Egyptian scene by this popular Victorian artist who at his height was earning the sum of £10,000 per annum, a sizeable sum for the time. The son of Edward Goodall he originally painted landscapes along the Thames amongst other views before spending time in Egypt and developing his more trademark views as depicted here which show Egyptian life and an almost Biblical setting.
